About Us
Who We Are
We are the retired members of the MSEA Maine Service Employees Association, SEIU Local 1989. As part of the Maine SEIU labor union, we represent over 13,000 active and retired members. Even after leaving active employment, we continue to advocate for our rights. Our efforts include lobbying legislators for improvements in our retirement plans and ensuring the protection of the benefits we've fought for in the past. Additionally, we offer benefit plans through MSEA-SEIU that cater specifically to the needs and interests of Maine retirees.
Membership
Our membership rules are broad-based and very inclusive, especially within the context of Maine SEIU. Retiree members are welcome from various levels of employment and status. This includes dues-paying members, along with dues-paying surviving spouses or significant others of retirees who have retired from employment or those who receive retirement benefits through the Maine Public Employees Retirement System.
Additionally, we welcome those retiree dues-paying individuals who were employed under any other public sector retirement system, including the Federal government, states outside of Maine, counties, and municipalities. This also encompasses private sector retired employees who held the same or similar jobs as our active members retiring in Maine, as part of MSEA Maine and SEIU Maine.
