We are the retired members of the Maine Service Employees Association, SEIU Local 1989. We are part of a labor union of more than 13,000 active and retired members. We continue to advocate for our rights after we have left active employment. We lobby legislators for improvements in our retirement plans as well as ensure that we protect the benefits that we've fought for in the past. We have benefit plans through the Union that are specific to Maine retirees needs and interests
Our rules for membersip are broad based and very inclusive. Retiree members are welcome from many different levels of employment and status. These include dues paying members and even a dues-paying surviving spouse or significant other of retirees who are retired from employment or those retirees who receive retirement benefits through the Maine Public Employees Retirement System.
We also include those Retiree dues-paying individuals who were employed under any other public sector retirement system including the Federal government, States other than Maine, Counties and Municipalities, and private sector retired employees who performed the same or similar jobs to those performed by our active members who are retiring in Maine.
Joining is easy! Just download and printout the MSEA Retiree Membership form and send it in to:

Social Security Fairness Act...
The retro payment from Social Security that you have or will soon receive in March may not have had deductions for federal taxes. This may result in you having to pay the IRS next year when you file your tax return. You should always consult with an Income Tax Professional when filing your taxes.
